How to Obtain a Teaching Certificate

Before you can teach, be it in the U.S. or somewhere else in the world, a teaching certificate has to be applied for and obtained first. And there are sure different kinds of them. Every state in America follows a certain set of procedures before a certain certification is issued.

Those who wish to teach either an elementary or a secondary education need a Teaching Certificate. It goes true to those who wanted to specialize on early childhood, special education, and technical education. Substitute teachers are required to be holding a Substitute Teaching Certificate as well.

Principals, superintendents, and supervisors of educational institutions, on the other hand, would require Administrative Certificates. Even the non-teaching positions in schools like that of a school psychologist and guidance counselor need to be holding a Professional Non-Teaching Certificate. Certificates for adult education, teacher intern, and athletic coaching are also necessary.

First time applicants must obtain an identification or clearance card, whichever the state you are applying on requires. And of course, they have to file for application accordingly. They are required to fill out the application form and have it submitted together with the required processing fee.

Applicants also need to forward an official copy of their transcript of records. It should bear the respective registrar's seal from the university they attended to. Photocopies are usually not permitted and most states accept only degrees and courses coming from duly accredited educational institutions.

Additional documents like previous teaching experiences papers that are properly verified and documented must be forwarded as well to facilitate the application's approval. After all the documents required are completed and submitted, the corresponding government office will be processing the application. They will soon issue the certificates to those deemed qualified.
