There is a great need for teachers right now. Just remember that like any job there is always a chance of getting fired if you go against policy or break the law

Hi, I am actually going to college now for elementary education. As long as you have the degree and have what is necessary to teach in the certain state (every state is different, but they will let you know if you need to take a certain course first). Teaching is high in demand right now. Want me to tell you where? My professor says that Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas are where teachers are needed the most. I am hoping when I am done to go to Arizona to teach! Good luck.

Not sure why people are telling you that teaching jobs are in high demand. This is a huge public misconception. Yes, of course, if you want to teach in an inner city somewhere it will be much easier to find a teaching job. However, if you’d like to teach in a nice neighborhood then finding a teaching job can be quite difficult. There are often several hundred teachers applying for just one position. Just visit any teaching forum on the internet and you’ll see many posts about how difficult it is to land a good teaching job.

First, teaching is not fun. The paperwork alone can mess up your mind. Add in NCLB, and classroom discipline problems and it’s a tough, not always rewarding job. If you teach in a financially secure school district and you are good at it, your job is secure. If you teach in a state like Ohio with erratic financing, as a first year teacher you are most likely going to be laid off after the art, music and P.E. teachers are let go if your district runs out of money. There are job openings in some states, and usually many applicants for positions. Districts usually get to be choosey.
