Stay tuned as WDGardner tries to establish some gardens in the community to create local jobs for some of the youth in the neighborhood.

The pay was seven dollars and twenty-five cents an hour — the federal minimum wage. Those chosen came from poor families and also faced at least one barrier to getting a job. Bro It really does my heart good to see you doing it big in the neighborhood. Check our school out there on the East side Nsoroma Institute (Afrikan Centered School). The school sits on a site w/ a Catholic Church there between Joann and Fairport off of 8 mile and Schoenner area. We just moved there this past school year. We have a few raised boxes there but the Director/Principal Baba Malik Yakini is over the Detroit Black Food Security Network. check out African American Family Mag this mo

Great garden. My garden all went to shit with the cold weather and rain. My cucumbers, bush beans and lettuce all rotted. My tomatoes are going to be late.
Nuru305 · November 28, 2010 at 3:33 am
Nope I started early at the last frost, I just went out the other day and finally found a broccoli head starting. I’m not sure what too them so long. But I planted like 10 of them and I only got 1 good one so far.
friedmainframe · November 28, 2010 at 3:45 am
Hi there Nuru : )
broccoli : blue wind
cabbage : golden acre/red express
These are cool weather crops though so if you started late with them they wont turn out to great.
Try replanting some around early-mid August. you should have better luck : )
Nuru305 · November 28, 2010 at 4:10 am
What kind of broccoli and red cabbage are you growing. Mine looks nothing like that.
